Delays
The announcement to rehabilitate the Principal Theater of Alicante came this month of August when the preparation of the Master Plan was put out to competition after an agreement from the Local Government Board. This news came after seven years of waiting, since in 2018 the Generalitatthen in the hands of botanistreceived three million euros to renovate the equipment, which is owned equally by the autonomous institution, the City Council and the Sabadell Bank.
The seven-year-old injection has since been blocked by the executive of Luis Barcalawhich required the banking entity to make a written commitment to contribute its corresponding part for the rehabilitation. Last year the approval came from Sabadell and, with it, the City Council announced the unblocking of the procedures to rehabilitate the Teatro Principal, which has 178 years of history and has capacity for 1,072 spectators.
In the last Debate on the State of the city, held on October 13, the mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, cited the rehabilitation of the Principal Theater as one of his objectives along with other projects such as the rehabilitation and improvement works in the Santa Barbara Castle or the remodeling of the old Abaseis cinemas.
