The Orihuela City Council is already warming up for Christmas. Through the Festivities Department, it has put out to tender the contract for the organization and execution of pre-Christmas eventssuch as the lighting of lights in the city (lot 1) and on the Coast (lot 2) and the Afternoon (lot 3), with a budget of 24,079 euroswhich are broken down by lots into 8,470, 3,509 and 12,100 euros. There is the possibility of making two one-year extensions (for 2026 and 2027) for a global amount of 59,700 euros (without VAT).
These activities will take place in different public spaces in the municipality. The lighting of Christmas lights will be the first weekend of December, while Christmas Eve will be celebrated on December 24.
According to the department headed by Rocío Ortuño (PP), These initiatives respond to a citizen demand and fulfill several functions of general interest such as encouraging participation and coexistence, reinforcing cultural identity and traditions, stimulating the local economy and local commerce and creating a welcoming and attractive environment for neighbors and visitors.
La Tardebuena also contributes to generating in the city a festive atmosphere demanded by a large part of the population, concludes the proposal.
On the 5th, starting at 5 p.m., there will be a parade through the town center with Christmas characters that will end at 7 p.m. at the Gabriel Miró Glorieta, where the traditional lighting of Christmas lights will take place.. As is customary, this event will open with the reading of the Christmas Story by the winner of the Christmas Story contest organized by the Department of Education.
On the 4th at 6 p.m. the lights will be turned on on the coastin the Plaza Antonio Vicea roundabout, where the Christmas tree will be located, with the performance of a children's choir or music band, which last year had to compete with the protest whistles of some neighbors.
On Christmas Eve, the 24th, the terraces of the bars in the area where the events will take place will take center stage. performances by different DJs.
