After suffering the cancellation of the fifth stage – originally produced for this Tuesday between Duitama and Tocancipá with a half mountain route of 150.9 kilometers -, the return to Colombia 2025 will resume its course this Wednesday with the dispute of a key fraction in the fight for the title.
The unemployment promoted by miners and peasants in the department of Boyacá prevented the schedule scheduled for August 5. Instead, the teams had to take an alternate route, passing through Villavicencio, to move to Bogotá.
“After deeply analyzing the situation and consensus with the sports directors of the participating teams, the decision was made to suspend the competition during this day,” the organization said through an official statement.
The suspended stage was going to culminate in Tocancipá, north of Bogotá, near Mosquera – 25 kilometers east of the city – which will be the starting point for a stage of 232 kilometers that is emerging as a determinant for the general classification.
The sixth fraction will have five mountain awards: two of the fourth category, one third, one second and a special port. The latter will mark the closure of the day: the high line, where the goal will be located more than 3,200 meters above sea level.
Rodrigo Contreras, of the Nu Colombia team and current competition champion, leads the general classification. The Cundinamarqués took over the tip last Sunday after imposing himself in the time trial and part of the yellow shirt.
The closest persecutor of Contreras is the Boyacense Diego Camargo (Team Medellín), who marches 2:31 minutes from the leader. In third place is another Cundinamarqués, Wilson Peña (Systemcredit), with a disadvantage of 4:26 seconds with respect to the first.
