

Tony Khan and Triple H have the last word in the development of stories in AEW and WWE respectively. Vince Russo, former writer of TNA, WCW and WWE, believes that the two men often have a hard time telling convincing stories.
Khan has been in charge of the creative direction of AEW since the launch of the company in 2019. In WWE, Triple H supervised the NXT brand for a decade before assuming the same role in RAW and SmackDown in 2022, shortly before Vince McMahon completely left the company.
Russo appeared in Writing With Russo With the presenter Mac Davis. When talking about the lack of individual stories and lack of character development in the Couples Division today, he blamed Khan and Triple H.
“The two guys in charge are not writers,” said Russo. “Hunter (Triple H) is not a writer. Tony Khan is not a writer. You have to write characters and must have character features and you have to continue insisting on those character features and you can see those features in the stories. You cannot see the features of characters in the ring.” (8:05 – 8:31)

At the end of the 90s, Vince Russo wrote stories to WWE When Raw used to get the highest audience rates in the history of the program. During that time, the wrestling legend Mark Henry developed the fun character of “Sea*ual chocolate”.
Russo believes that the story behind Henry's character change allowed viewers to get involved in his character:
