The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Friday having ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines “in the appropriate regions” in response to the “highly provocative” comments of the former Russian president Dmitri Medvedev.
In a publication in social networks, Trump said he acted “in case these foolish and incendiary statements were more than that.”
“The words are very important and, often, they can have unforeseen consequences; I hope this is not one of those cases,” he added.
Trump did not specify where the two submarines would be deployed.
In recent days, Medvedev published several comments by threatening the US in response to Trump's ultimatum to Moscow to accept a fire stop in Ukraine to avoid facing hard sanctions.
Russia and the United States have the largest number of nuclear weapons in the world.
A tense exchange
In a publication in Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Based on the highly provocative statements of the former president of Russia Dmitri Medvedev, who is now vice president of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in the appropriate regions.”
The US president did not specify if he referred to nuclear propulsion submarines or submarine armed with nuclear weapons.
At the beginning of Julio Trump he gave a 50 -day ultimatum to Russia to end the war with Ukraine, but this Monday he reduced the term to “10 or 12 days” and finally set it for August 8.
Medvedev on Monday accused Trump for “playing the ultimatum game” with Russia.

In an X publication, the former Russian president said that “every new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war.”
Earlier this month, Medvedev described Trump's ultimatum as “theatrical” and assured that “Russia doesn't care.”
And on Thursday, in a message on Telegram, Medvedev warned about a threat of “dead hand” that some military analysts interpreted as a reference to the key name of the Russian system of control of nuclear attacks.
Trump's publication this Friday on his social network is not the first in which the US president responds to Medvedev comments.
Thursday described him as “the former president failed of Russia who believes himself president.”
Trump also warned Medvedev that “he took care of his words,” adding that “he is entering a very dangerous terrain!”
The White House informed the BBC on Friday that I had no more comments on Trump's statements.
The Kremlin has not made public comments for the moment on the last words of the US president.
