In a conversation within the framework of the Football Axis Summit, Deportivo Forum promoted by Win Sports, Ramón Jesurún, president of the Colombian Football Federation; Álvaro González Alzate, president of Difutbol; and Carlos Mario Zuluaga, president of Dimayor, talked about different issues of national balomé, such as women's football, the creation of category C, the level of B and arbitration.

The impulse of women's football

Álvaro González stressed that “the feminine progress is moving over an overwhelming way. We have to recognize that women's football has been closing the gap with the masculine. We must give value to what women's football has meant to our country, in addition to continental and world tournaments. In the female sports merits are greater. The only thing that has missed us is luck.”

Along the same lines, Jesurún recalled that “in the last four or five years the level of selections is very good in all categories, including room and beach.”

In addition, he explained: “We invest a lot of money so that all teams arrive with international competitive level. We lack one more step: change the chip of winners for champion mentality. We always lack a goal to be champions, but we will achieve it.”

For Zuluaga, the challenge is also cultural: “We come from a culture of no, and that has given us compliance with the challenges. Women's football is an effort of all and a responsibility of all. Today we lack the winning chip that we are really capable. What we need are results.”

Category C: Between the need and the challenges

On the impulse to a c category, Jesurún said it is necessary. However, he explained that he has reservations: “It already exists and handles it Difutbol, but it is not professional. The idea would be to do it with promotions, as in other countries. The problem is displacement, because of the geography that Colombia has, which would be aerial and expensive.”

González recalled that “at the time, the C was a category that generated fervor in Colombian football. He even contributed a team in the B as a guest. But for political reasons it ends. Today is a necessity.”

Zuluaga supported the idea, but with conditions: “The industry needs three important factors: human, we have it; technological, we have it; but we lack the economic point. I am in favor of the C as long as the economic point is secured and stabilized.”

The level of B and arbitration

Zuluaga said that “the idea is that the level is getting better, but we must be aware of where we are going. In Dimayor we know it and we will take the necessary steps.”

The arbitration also occupied an important space. Jesurún said that “in Colombia, arbitration receives a strong investment every year with international courses. We have to improve the behavior of our players, treatment with referees and shameless simulation. We have to improve culturally.”

Zuluaga acknowledged that “there are still mistakes, but we have improved the game time with our measures. Players collaborate little and prioritize the ways to win or maintain a result. We are working on it and sanctioning the referees when appropriate.”

For his part, González was overwhelming: “It cannot be that the clubs have intervention in the designation of the referees. Investment to the arbitration school has been historical in courses and training. When the clubs press in the designation, it is when the level lower.”
