Eduardo Germán María Hughes Galeano was a Uruguayan journalist and writer, considered one of the most influential writers on the Latin American left. His best -known books, the open veins of Latin America and Memory of Fire, have been translated into twenty languages. He was born on September 3, 1940, in Montevideo, and died on April 13, 2015, in the same city.
