While Colombia is in mourning for death on Monday, August 11 of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, shot in a public act in Bogotá in June, the investigation into the reason for the crime continues its course.
Elder José Arteaga Hernández, aka Chipi or Costeño, remains one of the main suspects according to the authorities.
At the end of June, Arteaga Hernández was identified as the leader of a criminal cell hired to execute the attack against the politician. His arrest was confirmed days later.
According to the Attorney General, Chipi allegedly took care of recruiting those involved in the attack and carrying out the planning of the commission.
So far six people were arrested, including a 15 -year -old teenager, a main suspect of being the material author of the shots that finally turned off the life of Uribe Turbay.
Other detainees are Katerine Andrea Martínez, aka Gabriela, a 19 -year -old girl who would have provided the weapon to the teenager; William Fernando González Cruz, aka the old or brother, who was another of the logistics leaders of the attack; Carlos Eduardo Mora González, a Colombian-Venezuelan identified as a driver of one of the vehicles used in the escape of those involved and Cristian Camilo González Ardila, of whom the Prosecutor's Office says that it would be loved to guarantee the flight of the perpetrated.
Chipi, of a “outsourcing criminal”
According to the advance of the investigations revealed by General Triana, the attack was carefully planned, with Chipi as the head of the operation, “a criminal with more than 20 years of criminal history, who would be the main coordinator of the criminal action, from his planning to its execution,” said the high command.
After his capture, the Colombian defense minister, Pedro Sánchez, indicated that 'El Costeño' was the one who coordinated the logistics and operational details of the attack.
“This criminal, who would have received up to 1 billion pesos to articulate the network of hitmen and coordinate every detail of the attack, is already in the hands of justice,” said Sánchez.
The suspect was already known since the 2000s for crimes such as injuries, robberies, extortion and violence in the Bogotá area. He was imprisoned in prison La Modelo, where he met William González, the brother in 2002.

“The investigation indicates that (the attack) is not fortuitous. It is something planned, of people who meet, concentrate, and plan the affectation to the integrity of the senator. And that implies that there is someone behind all that,” Triana said in an interview with the magazine Semana.
Although the intellectual author has not been identified, the general said in June that the group headed by Chipi was hired as “criminal outsourcing”, that is, a criminal group that performs salary operations.
“(Chipi) is a leading person, has an indicated criminal capacity that implies that he was in jail. He organizes a criminal work, he instructed a group of people, between eight and 10 people,” Triana said a week.
The official said that, as in other cases of Colombia's crime, Chipi's criminal cell took advantage of the fact that the detainee comes from a context of family conflicts and was “instrumentalized” to carry out the attack.
The others involved participated in the planning and movements work before, during and after the attack.
The reasons for crime have not yet been clarified.
