Lashley, who enjoyed multiple reigns of the WWE championship and led the dominant faction The Hurt Business, saw his career suffering a surprising decline in 2023.

During an appearance in The Lame Guys Podcast Lashley shared how things changed after their victory over Brock Lesnar for disqualification in elimination chamber . At that time, the WWE had plans to face Bray Wyatt in Wrestlemania 39, but with Wyatt forced to leave the show due to a disease, Lashley ran out of a prominent place in the billboard. From there, Lashley was gradually relegated to the background. Although he assumed a mentor role with The Street Profits, helping Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins to adopt a more serious attitude, Lashley felt the WWE was stopping its impulse. The last important chapter of its history at the WWE came in the preparation for a fight of six men in Wrestlemania 40 against The Final Testament.

When reflecting on those last months, Lashley explained that, despite the setbacks, he did everything he could to shine in the limited time they gave him:

“That's when I got to the end of my career. I mean, when things changed, and it was as if they took me out of many things and I thought, ok, they can get me, but, I said, while they give me a second on television … Every time I left, 'Bobby! Bobby!' The crowd went crazy.

Despite feeling marginalized, Lashley refused to allow the situation to take away his mood. He shared how he even turned small appearances on television at times to highlight:

“I thought, okay, they can put myself behind and I will use a suit. I'm going to get some elegant costumes to put on. I thought, every time they give me a little time on television, I'm going to look like a damn star and that's what it's about.”

Although Lashley's career at WWE ended with a bittersweet note, his fans remember him as one of the most dominant figures in the modern era. His work with The Hurt Business and his multiple victories in championships consolidated their legacy, even if their final stories did not reflect their stellar power.
