As we near the end of the 2025/26 season, our Official Global Betting Partner, Betwaylook back at some of our most impressive comebacks under manager Mikel Arteta.

Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal – February 18, 2023

This tricky away trip in February 2023 got off to a slow start as we went behind to an Ollie Watkins goal, but a left-footed rocket from Bukayo Saka found the top corner to bring the match back level.

Phillipe Coutinho again put the hosts ahead to make it 2-1, and we pushed hard for an equaliser up until the hour mark, when Oleksandr Zinchenko fired in at the near post.

It looked like the points were going to be shared up until injury time, when January signing Jorginho’s long-range strike hit the crossbar and bounced in off Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Martinez went up for a corner in the final seconds, allowing Gabriel Martinelli to break away on the counter and roll into an empty net, sealing three valuable points in the title race.

Arsenal 2-1 Wolves – February 24, 2022

This was a crucial game in our hopes of earning a place in the top four in the 2021/22 season, but Hwang Hee-Chan’s goal after just 10 minutes was a considerable setback.

We pushed hard for a goal for the next 72 minutes, missing a few chances to go level before Nicolas Pepe finally found the net as he fired his first league goal of the season past Jose Sa.

There was belief in the stadium that we could find a winner, and it was captain Alexandre Lacazette who provided the winning moment in the 95th minute. The Frenchman was put through by Pepe and his finish was directed in off the Wolves goalkeeper, sparking wild celebrations inside Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal 3-2 Manchester Utd – January 22, 2023

We’ve had plenty of memorable matches against Manchester United over the years, and this one again saw a late winner as we came from behind in a breathless game against familiar foes.

Marcus Rashford netted with a long-range strike in the 17th minute to give the visitors the lead, but academy product Eddie Nketiah headed home an equaliser to make the game 1-1.

In an end-to-end game with chances for both sides, Saka fired into the corner from 20 yards out shortly after the break to give us the lead, but moments later a looping header from Lisandro Martinez brought the game back level.

It was Nketiah who came up with the winner this time. The centre-forward prodded home a bouncing ball in the six-yard box, and despite a nervous VAR check the goal was confirmed.

Newcastle 1-2 Arsenal – September 28, 2025

Matchday 6 of the current Premier League season saw us head up to St. James Park to face a Newcastle side who have given us some tricky matches in recent years.

After an early penalty decision in our favour was overturned, German striker Nick Woltemade then put the hosts ahead after 33 minutes. We were unfortunate to be behind, but could not find a breakthrough until very late in the second half.

Mikel Merino came on against his former team and glanced a glanced header past Nick Pope in the 83rd minute, setting up a late push for the win.

And yet again the winner came deep into stoppage time, when Gabriel Magalhaes rose above everyone from a corner to a score a trademark header that would see us come away with an important three points.

Arsenal 3-2 Bournemouth – March 4, 2023

There was a stunned feeling around Emirates Stadium inside the first 10 seconds of this Premier League home game, as Bournemouth opened the scoring straight from kick-off. Things then went from bad to worse in the second half as Marcos Senesi made it 2-0 to the visitors with just over half an hour remaining.

In a test of our mettle, though, we dug deep and staged a famous late comeback. We scored twice in the 13 minutes that followed Bournemouth’s second, with Ben White’s first Arsenal goal bringing the scores level.

With a roaring home crowd behind the team in the seventh minute of stoppage time, a corner was cleared to Reiss Nelson on the edge of the box. The Hale End product chested the ball down and smashed it into the far corner, giving us the win and sending the Gunners supporters and players alike into a frenzy.
