First in the Premier League standings with seven points ahead of Manchester City (and a game more) and cited among the two favorites for final victory in the Champions League, Arsenal is having a high-flying 2025-2026 season. While waiting for a possible first European coronation a year after that of PSG, the Gunners are well on their way to ending a 24-year drought in the championship. However, the London club risks having to make important choices next summer, even with key elements of this season.
After spending no less than €294 million during the 2025 summer transfer window, Arsenal must pay attention to its finances. And according to The Telegraphthe Gunners could take advantage of this season’s performances to sell certain items at high prices. The British media also assures that captain Martin Odegaard could be affected by this strategy. The information may come as a surprise, given that the Norwegian is a base man for Mikel Arteta. The Telegraph indicates, however, that the Scandinavian will only have two years left on his contract next summer and Arsenal wonders if the time to sell him at a high price has not arrived.
Dilemmas ahead for the Gunners
Same case for Kai Havertz. Will Arsenal want to extend their German striker under contract until 2028, but often injured? The former Chelsea resident is one of the potential starters. Ditto for Ben White. Recruited for €58 million in 2021, the Englishman is announced as more than ever leaving two years before the end of his lease. In attack, there will be three of them free in 2027: Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard. At 31, the Belgian seems to be the initial candidate.
Finally, the local media adds that two young people could be sacrificed to replenish the Gunners’ coffers: Ethan Nwaneri (18 years old) and Myles Lewis-Skelly (19 years old). Both are linked to Arsenal until 2030, but they have a profile of young prospects on whom clubs, particularly English, could drop at least €30 million. Which remains bad news for Nwaneri. The young attacking midfielder is going through a complicated period. To get tougher and come back stronger, he agreed to be loaned to OM in order to play under the orders of Roberto De Zerbi who was fired a few days later. If on top of that, he learns that Arsenal no longer want him, the blow may be hard to take.
