Australia reached the semi-finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup with a 2-1 victory over Korea DPR on Friday.

The result also means Matildas have qualified for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Caitlin Foord started the match and played 90 minutes, while Kyra Cooney-Cross came on in the 88th.

Steph Catley missed out on this game having been substituted with concussion in the previous match.

Alanna Kennedy opened the scoring in the ninth minute at HBF Park before Sam Kerr made it 2-0 early in the second half. Chae Un-Yong pulled one back for the away side but Australia held onto the lead to setup a semi-final clash on either Tuesday, March 17 or Wednesday, March 18.

The other sides left in the competition are China, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Japan and Philippines with the quarter-finals between those teams taking place across the rest of the weekend.

The final takes place on Saturday, March 21.
