Alessia Russo was pleased to be back on the scoresheet in front of an Emirates Stadium crowd on Saturday.
Alessia scored the second in a 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United in the Women’s Super League, and spoke highly of her team’s composed display.
“Really professional. Scoring early as well was great. And then we were very clinical in and around the box. Probably could have been a little bit more ruthless as well, if we’d been tough on ourselves. But, no, a really good performance and really nice to be back at the Emirates.

Alessia dedicated her goal by forming a ‘C’ with her hands during the celebrations, and explained the deeper meaning behind the hand gesture. “It was nice to get on the score sheet,” she said. “The ‘C’ was for a young girl called Cara Jo. She sadly passed away on Thursday, but I went to see her a couple of weeks ago.
“She unfortunately had cancer, but she was a proper fighter and a proper gooner. So, yes, that was for her and her family.”
Arsenal Women will be making good use of N5 over the next week, with our stadium hosting European and WSL action.
Important games against Chelsea and then a north London derby with Tottenham Hotspur both take place over the next seven days, and Alessia is looking forward to playing in front of a big attendance once more. “People are in a really good place.
“We’re really excited today to be back at the Emirates, and then knowing that we’re here Tuesday, and then Saturday as well.
“This is our home. We love playing here. We’ve got some big games coming up, but to do it with all these fans and at this place is really special.”
