Arsenal no longer has the right to make mistakes. Well established at the top of the Premier League since the start of the season, the Gunners are more than ever favorites to lift the Premier League, 22 years later. But in recent weeks, the Londoners have lost points and are seeing Manchester City come back strongly. Before a more than important derby against Chelsea, Arsenal had to not miss out. Because in the event of defeat, the Skyblues would have had a great opportunity to take the lead on the next day.
However, it was the Blues who managed to establish their rhythm at the Emirates Stadium. Eager to stay in the race for the C1 after two draws in a row, Liam Rosenior’s men were however shaken by Saliba’s opening score… for the 23rd time of the season from a corner (1-0, 21st). The pace then dropped and the mistakes multiplied. But on a final corner for Chelsea, the Gunners defense and Hincapié deflected the ball from James for the equalizer (1-1, 45th+2).
Chelsea scuttled
After the break, it was Chelsea who once again regained the rhythm in this derby, with a first alert from Fernandez, well deflected by Sánchez (55th). But Arsenal do not need to play the game, since all it takes is a corner to change everything. And this was confirmed with a new header from Timber, helped by Sánchez’s poor outing (2-1, 66th). Enough to completely change the appearance of the match, in addition to an avoidable foul by Pedro Neto on Gabriel Martinelli, which earned him a red card (71st).
Chelsea scuttled at the end of the match and saw Arsenal largely dominate, with Sánchez still decisive in front of Eze (80th). Despite everything, the Blues almost surprised Arsenal with a fleeing cross from Garnacho deflected by David Raya at the last minute (90th + 2). Enough for the Gunners, who regain a five-point lead over Manchester City, before going to Brighton. For its part, Chelsea moves away from the race for the C1 with this new setback and remains sixth, three points behind Liverpool and before another complicated trip to Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.
