We will be making our 52nd appearance at Wembley Stadium this weekend, aiming for our 28th win at the famous old venue where we have enjoyed some great days in our history, and indeed in recent times.
That’s because we are unbeaten in our last five trips to Wembley, winning each of the last four, which includes victories over Sunday’s opponents Manchester City in both the FA Cup semi-final and the Community Shield. That pair of results means we have lost just one of our last five Wembley clashes with City, although that was the last time we reached the League Cup final in 2018.
But our recent encounters under the arch have largely been memorable affairs, as we have only lost one of our last 14 visits to Wembley as a neutral venue:

*won on penalties
Our overall record at the national stadium, including the old ground before its demolition in 2000, is P51 W27 D4 L20 F68 A58 (counting games decided by penalties as either wins or losses). That includes the six Champions League home matches staged there in 1998/99 and 1999/2000, as well as the two Premier League games when Tottenham Hotspur used the venue between 2017 and 2019.
| Arsenal’s record at Wembley | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Competition | P | W | D | L | F | A |
| FA Cup | 25 | 16 | 1 | 8 | 37 | 24 |
| League Cup | 7 | 2 | 0 | 5 | 8 | 14 |
| Community Shield | 11 | 7 | 1 | 3 | 14 | 9 |
| Champions League | 6 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 8 | 9 |
| Premier League | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| TOTAL | 51 | 27 | 4 | 20 | 68 | 58 |
So just counting games when the stadium was used as a neutral venue, our record there is P43 W25 D2 L16 F59 A47. Those matches have come in the FA Cup (25), Community Shield (11) and League Cup (7). After our appearance there this Sunday, only Manchester United would have played at the stadium more times in neutral games (58).
Leandro Trossard is the only member of the current squad who has scored at Wembley for us, but Eberechi Eze netted the winner in last season’s FA Cup final there against City for Crystal Palace, as well as on both his last two appearances there for England.
Bukayo Saka has also scored on his last two outings there for England, while Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Kai Havertz have also scored international goals at Wembley.
They could add their name to the list of 11 players who have already scored at Wembley for both Arsenal and their national team, joining Alex James, Tony Adams, Alan Smith, Paul Merson, Ian Wright, Dennis Bergkamp, Nicolas Anelka, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez, Per Mertesacker and Theo Walcott.
Gabriel Jesus and Eze, meanwhile, could score in both a League Cup final and an FA Cup final for different clubs. Only three players have ever done that before: Andy Gray (Wolves and Everton), Michael Owen (Liverpool and Manchester United) and Louis Saha (Manchester United and Everton).
Jesus played for City in the 2018 League Cup final, and could make more history on Sunday as if he features in red and white, he would be the first ever player to have played for both sides in a League Cup final fixture. He has four career goals at Wembley, with all four of those coming for Man City between April 2018 and May 2019.
