Our young Gunners snatched a dramatic late point in an eventful Under-18s Premier League clash with Fulham.
After taking the lead through Louis Zecevic John, the visitors turned the game around early in the second half. However, despite being reduced to 10 men late on, debutant Luis Munoz rescued a deserved point in the dying moments.
WHAT HAPPENED
We made the perfect start, taking the lead inside the opening 15 minutes. Alex Marciniak threaded a delightful pass through to Zecevic John, who took it in his stride, rounded the goalkeeper, and calmly slotted into an empty net.
Fulham began to grow into the game and applied sustained pressure. Remi Lupinski was called into action to preserve our lead, first saving well from Brodie Dair after Anand Bartra’s cross found him in the box. He then produced another strong stop to deny Logan Cooke’s long-range effort.
Lupinski continued to impress, coming up big once again after we lost possession on the edge of the area. The ball fell to Aidan Evans, whose goal-bound strike was superbly tipped behind for a corner.
Just before the break, we had a golden opportunity to double our advantage. Zecevic John found himself through on goal but was unable to keep his effort on target.
Fulham responded strongly after the interval, drawing level when Dair played in Bartra, who fired his effort in off the post. Moments later, the visitors took the lead after we conceded possession cheaply. Evans picked out Dair, who still had work to do but found a narrow opening and rifled a precise strike into the bottom-right corner.
The game took another dramatic turn when Lupinski was shown a straight red card for handling the ball outside the box to deny Evans’ attempted lob. With all substitutions already used, Zecevic John was forced to go in goal for the closing stages.
Despite being a player down, we refused to give up and were rewarded in dramatic fashion. In the final moments, 14-year-old substitute Luis Munoz marked his debut in style, cutting in from the right before unleashing a brilliant strike into the top-left corner to secure a late equaliser.
WHAT IT MEANS
The draw moves us to 25 points from 20 league games this season.
