Martin Zubimendi’s precise drive against Sunderland has been nominated for February’s Premier League Goal of the Month award.
With the score still blank, we were struggling to break down a resilient Black Cats defence. But with three minutes to play in the first half, Martin received a pass from Leandro Trossard just outside the penalty area and struck a ferocious low shot in off the near post to give us a valuable lead.
Zubi’s strike gave us the momentum in the game, and set us on the way to a 3-0 win, with Viktor Gyokeres netting a brace in the second half.

Our midfielder is joined by seven others on the shortlist for the award. Sunderland’s Chemsdine Talbi is up for his stunner against Burnley, while Fulham’s Kevin is nominated for a brilliant finish against Manchester United.
Dominic Solanke’s scorpion kick and Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick, both scored against Manchester City, are up for the award, as is Hugo Bueno’s long-range strike for Wolves against us at Molineux.
The shortlist is rounded off by Benjamin Sesko’s deft flick to rescue a point for Manchester United against West Ham, and Anton Stach’s outstanding free-kick for Leeds in their draw with Aston Villa.
